Olive skin

Olive skin describes a muted, slightly greenish-gold cast to the complexion, often found on medium skin tones across Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, South Asian, Latin American and East Asian backgrounds, though it appears across many ethnic backgrounds. The tricky part is that olive describes a look, not a fixed undertone: olive skin can genuinely be warm, cool or neutral underneath, which is why olive-skinned people are disproportionately likely to be told conflicting things by different quizzes and consultants. In seasonal color analysis, olive skin appears most often among the muted seasons, Soft Summer's cool-neutral ashy olive and Soft Autumn's warm-neutral olive are both explicitly documented types, though olive skin also shows up in True Summer and True Autumn. Because olive skin tends to have naturally low-to-medium contrast and a muted rather than clear surface quality, bright, highly saturated color often reads harsher on it than on a similarly-toned but non-olive complexion.

Why it matters

Olive skin is one of the most commonly misdiagnosed undertones, because the same greenish cast can look warm in some light and cool in other light. Testing several indicators side by side matters more here than in almost any other case.
