Capsule wardrobe

A small, deliberately coordinated set of clothes, built from one season's palette, that mix and match easily.

A capsule wardrobe is a small, intentionally limited collection of clothing, usually somewhere between ten and thirty pieces, chosen so that nearly every item can be worn with nearly every other item. In the context of seasonal color analysis, a capsule wardrobe is typically built around one season's neutrals, a handful of the most versatile core colors from the best palette, and a couple of bolder statement pieces for variety, rather than around trend or occasion alone. Because every piece already shares a coherent hue, value and chroma family, a color-led capsule tends to mix and match more successfully than one built purely around cut or trend, and it also makes shopping faster: instead of evaluating a garment on its own, you are only asking whether it fits an already-chosen color story. Palette Pass reports on this site include a full twelve-item capsule, plus denim and print guidance, tailored to a person's specific season.

Why it matters

A color-led capsule wardrobe solves the nothing-to-wear-despite-a-full-closet problem at its root, by making every new purchase compatible with what is already there in the wardrobe instead of quietly adding yet another one-off, unmatched piece.
